There’s been an upswing in the demand for European river cruises, and Riviera River Cruises is heeding the call: in 2024, the line will debut its newest ship, the MS Porto Mirante, with 10 departures that will take clients along the Duoro River in Portugal and Spain.

“Our only itinerary on the Douro River has grown to become one of our most popular cruises, so we’re launching a new ship and a new itinerary to keep up with demand there,” said Marilyn Conroy, executive v.p. sales and marketing North America for Riviera River Cruises, in a press statement. “The stylish new MS Porto Mirante will take guests through the stunning heart of the winelands along the river, with excursions led by local experts who offer fascinating insight into the destinations we visit. And, as on all our 2024 river cruises, guests will enjoy our new Superior drinks package free of charge.”

The line’s new ship, MS Porto Mirante, will be 262 feet long and can welcome 118 passengers in 59 cabins, which are divided into three categories: Diamond (upper) and Ruby (middle), which sport French balconies with sliding doors, and Diamond, Ruby and Emerald (lower) deck standard cabins have a lounge chair with a small table. Amenities in all cabins include double beds that can be converted into queen beds, a bathroom with a rain shower, flat-screen TV, individual climate controls and more. The ship will boast an atrium bar and lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows to enjoy the passing landscape, a restaurant, a fitness center, and a sundeck with a sky lounge, bar and splash pool.

The 8-day Highlights of the Duoro Valley and Salamanca River Cruise sails round-trip from Porto and includes a tour of the city’s Old Town, a visit to the 12th-century village of Castelo Rodrigo and a visit to Quinta de Avessada with a rustic lunch and Moscatel tasting, visits to Lamego and Mateus Place and much more. The line offers a total of 22 itineraries on 10 rivers in Europe, including departures for solo travelers sans the solo supplement, as well as holiday season cruises. Of note: The line accepts bookings exclusively from travel advisors. The new ship will join the brand’s MS Douro Elegance and MS Douro Splendour, which are already sailing the Douro, Porto and Salamanca River Cruise.
